National HIV Prevention Convention opens in Lusaka
Lusaka, 22nd November 2011 -- The second National HIV Prevention Convention opened in Lusaka yesterday under the theme “Securing Zambia’s future through combination HIV prevention, palliative care and treatment.” The 3-day convention has been convened by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council, the United Nations County Team in Zambia and other partners to take stock of progress made in terms of the resolutions which were adopted at the first HIV prevention convention which was held in 2009.
The convention will review progress made in addressing the factors which are influencing the spread of HIV. The major themes include multiple and concurrent partnerships, low and inconsistent condom use, low levels of male circumcision, mobility and migrant labour and treatment for prevention. It will also address other themes such as vulnerability and marginalized groups, laboratory and medical supplies and data integration, multi-sectoral prevention response management and coordination, TB/HIV interaction and behaviour change communication.
